 Frequently Asked Questions

  • Only 50% of podcasts survive beyond five episodes. Much of that is because of an ill-defined purpose. Your podcast should reflect your business's or organisation’s goals. An audio strategy will make you think about aspects that you may not have considered.

  • It doesn’t have to be at all. You can simply rock up to the podcast recording, and I'll take care of the rest. Most of my clients spend between 60-120 minutes per month on recording podcasting. I can record with you, so you don’t have to faff around with the technical side of things. Once the recording has finished, I grab the audio and create a highly-professional podcast which I uploads to the podcast hosting platform.

  • With a background in journalism, I have hosted dozens of podcasts series and conducted 1000+ interviews for some of Australia’s leading brands. I will guide you on best practices, providing ongoing coaching throughout the life of your podcast.

  • Most podcast hosts record from their own home or office. If you have good internet connection, you need a decent USB microphone (prices start at $130) and headphones, and a subscription to an online podcast recording platform, like Riverside ($24 a month).

  • It depends on your content, audience preferences and format. And these factors should be considered during the Audio Strategy. There is no hard-and-fast rule, but 20-30 minutes is a good length to aim for. Like a TEDTalk, it’s long enough to cover the important bits but short enough to keep it engaging.

  • Ideally you want to build a habit with your audience. The more regular and consistent you are, the more likely they will remember which day of the week your episodes are released. But, weekly is twice as much effort than fortnightly. Fortnightly is still regular enough for it to be habitual for listeners. Whatever you decide, be consistent with your efforts. You can also include “bonus” episodes if you decide to offer more content outside the regular publishing schedule.

  • Include the podcast on a dedicated webpage or website, from where people can consume it directly. Seasoned podcast listeners will then migrate to their favourite podcast app. Post regularly on social media about new episodes and behind-the-scenes content, and engage with your followers by responding to comments and messages. You will have between 6-18 different assets (video clips, blogs, transcripts, audiograms, etc.) which you can repurpose your show on multiple platforms and social media. Get yourself on other podcasts that target your audience. If you actually have your own podcast, it's easier to get yourself on other podcasts.
