Chris Ashmore

Chris Ashmore is one of Australia’s most experienced producers of spoken-word audio. Chris graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Media Studies at Swinburne University in Melbourne. In 1998, he began working as a production assistant, soon a producer, with Business Essentials, founded by renowned journalist and former host of Nine’s A Current Affair and ABC’s Breakfast show on Melbourne Radio, Michael Schildberger.

Business Essentials is the world’s longest-running monthly subscription-based audio magazine. Chris produced similar business programs, including Business Essentials for Australia Post, Business Essentials UK edition, and Business Essentials US edition.

In late 2001, shortly after the World Trade Centre attacks in New York, Chris worked briefly as a roving reporter and assistant to Neil Mitchell’s 3AW talk-back morning radio program, Melbourne’s number 1 radio show.

In 2002, Chris moved to Tokyo, Japan. Chris immersed himself in the local language and the world of business. He was a partner at executive search firm, Optia Partners, and leader of the professional services team. Chris recruited bilingual lawyers for multinational companies, and was a leading in-house, non-finance legal recruiter for the Japanese and East Asian market.

Chris met the love of his life in Tokyo. They married in Marysville, Victoria, in 2008, and in 2015 made the move to Australia with their young daughter.

Chris returned to Business Essentials – now known as SoundCartel – as senior producer, at a time when podcasting started to take off. Chris continued with his role as journalist for the Business Essentials series, and producer of Business in Focus, another subscription-only audio program for Chartered Accountants.

As senior producer at SoundCartel, Chris has produced podcasts for Officeworks, Melbourne Food and Wine, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Bristol Myers Squibb, APM, Judicial College of Victoria, Olive Wellness Institute, the Australian Government, Magellan, REA Group, and many more.
